Same old shtick as Stuckists stick to the Turner Prize

05 May 2010

EVENING STANDARD ARTICLE.

SURPRISE, surprise, the Stuckists are sticking the boot in to this year’s Turner Prize nominees. “Tedious, timid, daft and incestuous,” is the verdict of the group’s co-founder Charles Thomson. “This is Turner Prize purgatory and the prize continues to be a parody of itself with a predictable and elite choice of art world insiders,” he complains. “The dull and insipid list is not the Turner Prize: it is Turner Prize Purgatory.”

In previous years, the Stuckists have given out badges saying “The Turner Prize Is Crap”. Clearly the Stuckists aim to shock but now that their shtick is more than 10 years old perhaps it would be more memorable if, one year, they actually liked one of the artists nominated?
